50th High School Reunion
When I was in high school, I remember “old people” talking about their 50th High School Reunion.
Is that possible, does anyone live to be that old?
Well, it finally happened in the blink of an eye. One day I was in high school and the next day I am going to my 50th High School Reunion. Didn’t help that the day before I was scanning photos and pondered my grandmother Riley in her old age … three years younger than I am now! A 46-year medical career is already fading into distant memory.
As they say, “It beats the alternative,” and at least I’m still vertical. Being an introvert and shy, I was surprised how much I enjoyed seeing people again and reacquainting, especially people I was intimidated by or rarely spoke to. As we journey through our lives my classmates share a slice of time, just three years, fifty years ago but there is a bond.
Oddly, the names are easy as are the yearbook faces but it was difficult to recognize many. Time certainly changes us.
While forty-nine of our classmates are no longer with us, I thank those who are for being friends this past Saturday night and I wish that more had made the decision to attend. It only comes once and I truly appreciate my classmates.
